final project

Nineteenth Hole Magazine

This is my magazine

Here is my final product. I´m really happy in how it turn out. With this project I really learn a lot by using different tools and a lot of creativity. I think the content of my magazine is very useful and it would really help a lot of people who are struggling towards a sport. Also the rest of the magazine has tips for golf players in like what to wear and healthy food to eat while playing so that you have more energy. My magazine served my target because it towards teenagers from 16-18.

This is my CCR. In this link is my video answering the four questions and also me talking a little bit about my magazine. This project was a journey that I really enjoy doing it. Thanks to this class I had the opportunity to learn how to do new things that are mainly used in this generation.
I choose to do a golf magazine because I´m a golf player and all the magazines that I have seen are for an older target audience so I thought that it would be really cool if my magazine target audience was toward the younger the generation which are the generation of the future. This magazine could bring more young teenagers into the sport and bring more attention to the younger players.

questions for Interview

Interview questions:

Golf Magazine questions:

  1. When did you decided you wanted to play golf in college?
  2.  How do you manage to be a college athlete and also  study at the same time?
  3. What would you recommend to the  upcoming  freshmen athletes?
  4. What do you like most about playing golf in college?
  5. How are student athletes treated?
  6. Where do you see yourself after college?

This are the question that I ask Valentina Haupt a friend who is playing golf for the Southern Mississippi university. This is her second year on the team so she really knows this process and would like to help others to achieve their goal. She answered the questions with a lot of thought and this could help people who are athletes who are going to play a sport for a University and are lost and nervous about this new experience that is about to come.

Cover done

Cover and Table of contents

So this week I had a cover but I was not confident with it so I did 3 different cover and decided which one was better and it looks appealing. In this blog I would post my 3 main cover designs and the one that I choose.
Here are the 3 options:

https://www.canva.com/design/DACRYFYI08I/share?role=EDITOR&token=zwpY0_7G6MjtyomVlgNL0w&utm_content=DACRYFYI08I&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link&utm_source=sharebutton

For my table of content I started to do it yesterday. For my table of content I used as a help tool an actual golf magazine called Kigdom. I have the magazine at my house so I saw how artsistic golf magazine are and what I would need to do to make it better. Also it gave me new ideas for more content to write for my table of  content that would make my magazine more interesting. Also I was planning to have more pictures than words in my table of contents because I feel that pictures speak lauder than words. I feel people can relate to a picture and feel attracted to it and by this the magazine would attrack people who would like to visit a course and play it because its pretty and this would attrack tourist.
The content I'm planning to put on my table is:
1- main story (interview)
2- new outfits for the summer
3- Top 10 courses in Florida
4- Most common brand use in golf clothe
5- Healthy snacks to eat while playing

Magazine Cover

In my photo shoot my main plan was to take pictures that best fit the cover of the magazine. Here I will post some of the pictures I took and some options that I´m considering for my cover. I might go this Monday to take more pictures and go to different holes so I get different angles. I think the lighting of the pictures were not so good. So I will go Monday in the early afternoon to get better Lightning. Also i would like to go another day so that we can have pictures with other clothing so that it shows different styles most girls use. On my next blog I would reveal the picture that I choose for the cover!!

Magazine pictures

PICTURE DAY

Yesterday I finally took the picture for my magazine. I went after school with my friend Gabi Soares to the Weston Hills Club. As we where playing we took pictures doing her swing like action shots. Also we took pictures of her modeling her outfit while we where playing golf. We had so much fun playing and also taking the pictures we had a fun day. The club has so many pretty holes that I think I would have go back and take more pictures of her and the course so that I have more options and I can play a little more with the pictures and the design of my magazine.

Yesterday, I started doing the cover and I did the Masthead. I spend a pretty long time doing it because I tried so many fonts because in the app Canba there are so many options. I chose a template that I think is very artistic and it would go very well with the type of magazine I want to produce. I would recommend this app because its very very good and its easy to access and easy to chose from the many options they give you.
On my next blog I will show you guys some pictures from my photo-shoot and hope you guys would like it.

Second Class Discussion

Class Discussion:

On this past Wednesday we had a second class discussion. This time it was a smaller group of 3 to 4 people. My group had 4 people. This time we discussed more about our process and the things we have done through out this past week. With my group each one of us talked of our process.

When it was my turn I talked about my project and explained my ideas. Because my target audience are teenagers they told that for my table of contents it would be better if I put more pictures and less words so that is more artistic and also targets my audience.  I did some research about how do it and I got good ideas through Pinterest.
The link is below.
https://www.pinterest.com/suzieausten/contents-page-ideas/?lp=true

By looking at this website it gave me different ideas that combine may look very good and artistic and that is my purpose. Also by searching this I found a website to do my magazine and I´m so excited. On my next blog I will talk about it more.

why

PLANNING

First I want to talk about all the changes I have done in this week.
I think what helped me the most was the discussion we had in class with the students of the class. This discussion was an eye opener. They made me change my target audience to teenagers because golf as I have talked about before, golf  is a sport commonly known as a old guy sport so I want to make it for teenagers  so that the sport would have a new target. I want to make my magazine as colorful as I can to bring the attention. Also I think that if I have too much writing is going to get a little bit boring.

For the pictures I want to make it as artistic as I possible can. I would use all the techniques I have learned through out the year. This post is going to be shorter than the rest of the post because I´m planning to take the pictures on Monday and try to do as much as I can this week to have it almost done before the week is due.

Not Your Typical Golf Magazine

New and original ideas:

Because I´m doing a golf magazine I have to make it as original and entertained as possible, this sport is not as common to read for teenagers. So I have thinking to do it artistic combine with fashion. For the cover I was thinking to ask one of my golf friends to model for me and I would take action shots as they play. For my cover I want my picture to be artistic but also with the new clothe golfers are using.
This link is from the Kingdom magazine and it shows the cover of some of their magazines and I want my idea to be similar but also my original idea, this is just to show you guys some ideas I´m thinking for my magazine.

https://www.accessglobalgolf.com/kingdom-magazine/

This link below show some of the ideas I have in mind for the clothe to use for the pictures in my magazine. This  would help me to get inspire with the clothe and pictures. I would take the pictures in Weston Hills Country Club because
I´m a member so it would be easier because I know the course very well and what holes are going to be perfect for the picture and the clothe to match it. For the pictures it would be ideal to be in the afternoon so that the clarity is on point and the pictures come out with a good quality. I plan to do all the pictures of my magazine in one day to I have time to edit them and have time to choose the ones that I really like. l

Aice media class discussion

Class Discussion:

On Monday  in aice media class our teacher decided to put the whole class into  small groups of people. My group had six persons and each of us presented our idea of film/ magazine through their blog. By doing this everyone got advice on how to make their idea better and more specific for their target audience.
When it was my turn to present I put on my blog on the screen and talk about my idea. I wasn't sure if to do the magazine artistic or formal. Most of their advice was to do it artistic because of my target audience is mainly teenagers. I was thinking that to make it artistic I would do like a combination of fashion and golf. Through their ideas I thought to do like a magazine about how golf girls are dressing in this era. I think that for players like me, its very important to dress good and with comfortable clothe because we spend so many hours practicing or playing and we want to look good every time. For this I was thinking to go to a course here on Weston where I live and take picture of her doing different shots and also using different styles of golf that are what most of the girls wear on tournaments and on the daily. Also they liked my idea about the interview of the two players that are playing golf for their university.

I thought this activity help the class a lot because of the advice of the others students, I think we should do the same discussion when the project is more advanced to see if the ideas are going well and  so we should keep going. I hope that the advice that I got from our class would really helped my project and make my idea more clear so that my final product ends the way I wanted to and also people ca enjoy it like I did creating it for my audience.

Magazine Title

I have good news, I have finally decided the Masthead for my magazine.

The name I choose is: Nineteenth Hole

NINETEENTH HOLE
NINETEENTH HOLE
NINETEENTH HOLE
NINETEENTH HOLE
NINETEENTH HOLE
NINETEENTH HOLE

This are some types of font I was thinking to use for my magazine but I don´t know which one is going to stand out more. Also I don´t want the Masthead to be too simply or too attractive. I used this tone of green to indicate that it´s a golf magazine. This tone of green it´s mostly used in the golf industry. By using this green my target audience would instantly get the connection that the magazine is probably about something to do with golf. In the golf world the color green represents the golf courses especially the fairways. Im still deciding which one to use. Hope you guys like it

Magazine Title

Masthead

I have been deciding all of  the content for my magazine and I completely forgot about the Masthead. I think the Masthead is one of the most important things of the magazine, the masthead is the focus point of the main cover. It  needs to be presented in a way that makes it stand out from all the competitors on the same shelf. I think the name should be easy to read and really catchy.
Also the font of the masthead should reflect the theme of the magazine. The color its also very important because a bright color would stand out more to the eyes.

Some of the names I have brain storm are:
- Green Survival                                     - Partner
-Green                                                   - Caddie
-Tee Time                                               - Mental Game
-Balling                                                  - Score Card
-Golf Style                                              - Golf Era
-Golf Life                                                - Stuck in Golf
-Nice shot                                              - Golf Talk
- Birdie Time                                          - Golfing World
-Golf Swing                                            - Golf in Style
-Fairway                                                - Walking 18
-Nineteenth Hole                                    - Rough Day
-Ready Golf

So this is the list of a couple of names that come through mind right now. On my next blog I would reveal the name of my magazine I hope you guys like the one that I choose!!!!!!

My type of magazine

Ideas for magazine content:

I want to make my magazine a bit unique and also more entertained.  I have decided that for my magazine I want to do  a combination of an artistic magazine with also  interviews of young golf players. I have two friends that both are in a NCAA division 1 university playing golf right now, so I have decided to dedicate one part of my magazine in a interview of them so they can tell me their experience and what they would recommend to young players who are thinking of going this route. I think this interview would really be interesting because they don't go to the same university and one is a girl and the other one is a boy so they would have different perspective of their experiences. Also I think this interview would be very different from the rest because golf readers are used to read about famous golf players that already have their career so it would be different to hear young people perspective about their golf career playing for a team.

By doing some research I found this website of questions to ask in a sports Interview of kids Athletes and I thought it was very interesting. http://work.chron.com/questions-ask-sports-interview-kid-athletes-14417.html

Magazine Genre and Target Audience

Target audience:

Golf is a very expensive sport so the target audience is mostly Middle age (50 and over) with a high social status. Only 33 percent of the total number of U.S. golfers. NGF( National Golf Foundation) further estimates that within this demographic:

• more than 45 percent are between the ages of 18 and 39;
• 22 percent are female; and
• 22 percent are junior golfers between 5 and 17 years of age.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that every list will reflect these age variations.
It seems that most of the big spenders in the industry are, in fact, the so called typical golfers. They “are primarily older men with higher than average incomes,” Most of the equipment is really expensive and most golfer buy their clubs according to their height and weight. Players do not only focus on their equipment, a big part of golf are the golf courses. There are 2 types of courses; the private and the public courses. Golf players usually are members of private courses because they spend a lot of hours practicing and private courses are better looking and more challenging to play.
In the United States alone, there are approximately 26.2 million golfers, according to the National Golf Foundation (NGF), a Jupiter, Fla.-based company that offers golf-business research, information and consulting services. It further notes that they spent a total of $24.3 billion in 2002 on equipment and fees, making this a lucrative market. Most players spend high rates in fees because the better courses are more expensive and to play 18 holes in some courses like that if you are not a member it cost $100 each player.
Golf players that read this type of magazine have an average income of $173,600, which they use to purchase golf equipment, apparel, real estate, golf travel packages, subscriptions and services.
